ASTRAGALUS ROOT (Huang Qi) 20g – a powerful immune booster which strengthens Qi and the Spleen
CHINESE DATE (Da Zao) 20g – strengthens the Spleen & Qi, nourishes the Blood& calms the Spirit
CHINESE YAM (Shan Yao) 25g – nourishes the Spleen and Lungs & augments Qi
CODONOPSIS ROOT (Dang Shen) 30g – Strengthens the Spleen and Stomach, tonifys the Lungs, reinforces Qi, nourishes the Blood and Body Fluids
CORDYCEPS FLOWER (Yin Chong Cao) 20g – enhances immune system, improves energy, mental concentration and alertness, helps healthy Liver function
FICUS HIRTA ROOT (Wu Zi Mao Tao) 30g – Strengthens the Spleen, eliminates dampness, promote the flow of Qi, helps with coughing & resolves Phlegm, relaxes tendons & helps with leg pain
GORGON FRUIT (Qian Shi) 25g – promotes cardiovascular health & healthy blood pressure, benefits digestion& healthy blood sugar level along with exercise and healthy diet, supports Kidney health
HONEY DATES (Mi Zao) 30g – supplementing Qi, relieves cough, strengthens and moistens the Lungs, dissolves phlegm
Preparation & Cooking Instructions
You will need
- 500g of chicken/pork bone-in or your favorite protein; or substitute with your favorite veggies for a vegan option.
- 5L boiling water + extra to blanch protein & soak herbs
- 4 generous slices of ginger
- Salt to taste (other seasoning)
- Optional – 1 tbsp Shaoxing rice wine
Instructions:
Wash all ingredients
- Optional: Clean/blanch/wash – if you like to add chicken or pork (not included)
- Marinate the protein with salt after blanch washing.
- In the meantime, rinse the herbs and soak them in cold water for 30 minutes, to ‘awaken’ herbs.
Cook
With all the ingredients in a stock pot add optional 4-5 slices of Ginger (not included) then add 1.5l of water and bring to boil on high heat and boil for 10 minutes. Turn down heat and simmer for 1 hour or till meat is cooked.
Season
- Optional: add 1 tablespoon of Shaoxing rice wine and boil for another 3 min on high heat. You may also add your preferred seasoning, such as sesame oil, fish sauce or soy sauce at the end.
- Rest for 5 minutes before serving.
