Ingredients
ADUKI BEAN (Chi Xiao Dou) 50g – resolves abdominal fullness, improves urination and regulates bowels
CHINESE YAM (Shan Yao) 30g – nourishes the Spleen and Lungs & augments Qi
GOJI BERRIES (Gou Qi Zi) 20g – enhances immune system function, strengthens the Kidney, nourishes the Liver, boosts eye health
JOB’S TEARS SEEDS (Yi Yi Ren) 35g – assists discharging excess fluid and accumulated impurities from the body
LILLY BULB (Bai He) 15g – clears Heart heat and calms the Spirit, also relieves cough, dry throat and other respiratory problems
LOTUS SEEDS (Lian Zi) 20g – reinforces the Kidney, nourishes the Heart & strengthen the Spleen
SEA COCONUT SLICE (Hai Di Ye) 15g – moistens skin and nourishes Lung, Improves immunity
SOLOMON’S SEAL (Yu Zhu) 30g – nourishes Yin, Lung & Stomach
Preparation & Cooking Instructions
You will need
- 500g of chicken/pork bone-in or your favorite protein; or substitute with your favorite veggies for a vegan option.
- 5L boiling water + extra to blanch protein & soak herbs
- 4 generous slices of ginger
- Salt to taste (other seasoning)
- Optional – 1 tbsp Shaoxing rice wine
Instructions:
Wash all ingredients
- Optional: Clean/blanch/wash – if you like to add chicken or pork (not included)
- Marinate the protein with salt after blanch washing.
- In the meantime, rinse the herbs and soak them in cold water for 30 minutes, to ‘awaken’ herbs.
Cook
With all the ingredients in a stock pot add optional 4-5 slices of Ginger (not included) then add 1.5l of water and bring to boil on high heat and boil for 10 minutes. Turn down heat and simmer for 1 hour or till meat is cooked.
Season
- Optional: add 1 tablespoon of Shaoxing rice wine and boil for another 3 min on high heat. You may also add your preferred seasoning, such as sesame oil, fish sauce or soy sauce at the end.
- Rest for 5 minutes before serving.
