Peeling the Onion: How Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture address health ailments

Health ailments develop through stages over time if nothing is done along the way to prevent their evolution, such as consuming a healthy diet and practicing healthy lifestyle habits. These ailments spread and penetrate to the inner layers of the body and reveal their presence through different signs and symptoms. They often disguise themselves as something else but, if we look deeper, we realise that all the changes stem from one or two core common roots which we, in Chinese Medicine, recognise as ‘patterns’ that we aim to resolve.

For this reason, facilitating positive change in a person undertaking Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture theory requires patience, perseverance and commitment to the process, which is rather similar to peeling an onion. When a person presents with a specific set of complaints, which may or may not be visible from the outside, it is up to the Chinese Medicine practitioner to identify the affected layers and carefully remove them one by one, till the inner healthy ones are exposed. It takes a bit of time for the body to regenerate its strength and stamina and  start functioning at or very close to its optimal level.
